Hi, I’m a mum to my recently turned 7 year old. I have thought about moving to menorc for a while now and would appreciate any advice on how to move here. I would love to buy a property preferably and would appreciate any advice on how to do that and schools etc. I would be looking to work but have been told by another female expat most work for women is low paid. I don’t mind as long as I can pay bills and live comfortably. I am currently studying accountancy back home in UK and wondering if this is something I could do or would the language barrier make it more difficult. My Spanish is minimal but I am a fast learner and would take Spanish lessons if living here. Any and all advice welcome......My main concerns would be schooling for my daughter, work (my partner is a gas engineer/ plumber but also does gardening so would be able to both) i am open to all types of work, and lastly the joy of being able to get a mortgage. Gracias

Hi, there are a few Facebook groups that may prove to be useful if you have not already joined them:

As you can imagine there are many companies offering plumbing and I don't think there is a Corgi equivilent in Spain so a UK trained gas engineer might struggle to find work in that trade, however solar heating and solar hot water systems are very popular as are oil fired heating systems, I suppose if hubby has experience or is prepared to move into this field of work he may find something to suit, it might be worth contacting some of the 'management' firms who look after holiday properties outlining his skillset, there's lots of them.

Accountancy, I'm sure that ACCA is recognised throughout Europe, obviously depending on what level you are taking but check their website for more information, I am pretty sure that working for a Spanish accountancy firm you would need a good level of Spanish.

Schools, there are no English schools in Menorca, but I have it on good authority that younger kids soon adapt and learn the language very fast.

The Facebook pages I mention above will certainly help you on so many fronts and I'm sure there will be people there who can giude you better than I.

I hope your dream is realised, Menorca is a very special place.

Regards

Andy & Juls
