I have been given 1 x  €500 & 3 x €200  euro notes from my father in law who lives in Austria . We are coming out on holiday to Calan Bosch next week . Are we able to change then in a bank in Ciutadella to lower denominations ?

Thank you

Sue

It's been my experience over 36 years if extended stays on Menorca that high value notes are not a problem, unlike in the UK. I regularly use €100 and €200 notes in shops or restaurants. I guess for safety's sake you could exchange the €500 note at a bank for smaller denominations.

Yes any local bank would change them into 50 and 20 which are useable everywhere. Taxis wont take such big notes but many accept credit/debit cards. As do most shops . Its a good idea to split your money between your partners  then if you are unlucky to be robbed you wont lose it all. Exercise the same care you do in say London
