Hello,

We are looking to celebrate a birthday in late June (just 2 of us) and were thinking of booking a villa in Menorca. The area around Binibeca looks attractive as it is easily accessible from the airport. We prefer somewhere reasonably quiet, although local access to a few bars and restaurants is a must. We also like to walk a lot. Looking at Google Earth, Binibeca appears a bit devoid of a centre and does not appear to have much in the way of bars and shops?

Given the above criteria, we would be very grateful of some guidance as to where we would be best to book. We only focussed on Binibeca as parents (now deceased) visited many years ago. We are open to anywhere in the island, preferably not too far the airport.

Thank you in anticipation.

Binibeca is a good choice!

There are lots of excellent restaurants at Cala Torret, and also in and around.

Supermarket in Cala Torret, and Binibeca Vell, and an excellent beach.

20 mins from airport, a good choice!

Many thanks for your advice, which is extremely helpful. Are there many good walks in the area, preferably out of town and off-road?

Thanks again

There are good walks from Punta Prima to Alcufar, from S’Algar to Cala St Esteve, from Binibeca to Torret, However, I always recommend that visitors hire a car to get the most out of their visit. The Cami de Cavall offers excellent off road walks, and the Northern sections require a car to get to the starting points.

Many thanks again for your advice and excellent information. Judging from Google Earth, the walks you have suggested look really nice.

We have already booked our flight and are currently looking for a villa for our stay.

Thanks very much again.

You could try the delightful Punta Prima. Lots of restaurants and bars on the strip right by the gorgeous beach. 2 very well stocked mini markets. Excellent walks along the coast.Buses to Mahon and beyond. 20 minutes from the airport.

The great thing about Menorca is that nowhere is more than 30 minutes drive away! You could look at the NE of the island - Fornells, Arenal, Mercadal, Addaia. I have to admit to a bias as I have had a house in Addaia for 36 years. A car is a must, as a previous respondent pointed out. Possibly avoid places like Ca'lan Porter, which was one of the first developments on the island. Binibeca is a bit 'twee' for us, but there are without doubt some lovely properties there.

Thank you very much for your reply and information about  NE of the Island. Having had a house there for such a long time I'm sure you know pretty much everything about it. Looked at Ca'lan Porter on Google Earth and it looks fine on there. Why do you not rate it? Also I have looked at the bus company map and timetable as it seems adequate as we didn't want to hire a car. Do you know any different please? The more information we can gather about the Island before we go the more we can pack into our week. Thanks again for reply.
