Has anyone experienced an excellent Solicitor for buying a house ...I know it's a minefield having done it once in Portugal with not very good results!! Therefore word of mouth maybe the way forward
Thanks

Hi there,
As long as you use a respected estate agent like bonin Sanso you don't need a solicitor, you are literally paying twice, as you have to pay a notaria, who is the legal link between you and the seller.
Another good estate agent in Ciutadella is Maryline Paez

Obviously take the same care here as you would buying a property in the UK.
Hope this helps.

Hello, you definitely need an independent solicitor, although you need a reputable estate agent too. Always remember the agent is working for the seller and is payed on the sale. I have used a lawyer in Mahon for many years, very reliable. Call 971 352 572 ask for Fernando. Good luck.

Hi, thankyou so much for taking the time to answer my question. We thought we did need a solicitor. I have made a note of the info. You have given.
Thankyou

Have you heard of Island and Home estate agents?

It all depends on the type of property you want to buy! There have been issues with people buying houses in the country for example and not realising they didn't own the land. You can make appointments with notaries if you have doubts. I would recommend a good survey and if it's too good to be true it is.
Yes the estate agent has an interest in the sale, but they also have a reputation . Notaria fees are high but they are nuetral and you have to use them.
I haven't heard of island and home, but I live in ciutadella, where are they based?
