My husband and I have holidayed in Menorca many times and live in North Somerset with our 2 dogs.  We are both now retired and would like any recommendations on relocating to Menorca permanently as we love the climate, the Island and people we have met.  We have not looked into anything as yet and would appreciate any positive or negative comments on relocating to this beautiful Island please.

I hope you get lots of replies , i will read with interest as like you we have holidayed for many years on the beautiful island . Since 1982 in fact .   Its the only place in the world that i feel equals my love of England .  Who knows we may be inspired to do the same .

Hi, although we do not live on Menorca we previously had a villa and are now in the process of purchasing another property ready to move out in a few years.

You know the island so if you are considering relocation make sure you pick an area which is not closed down for the winter.

We ,like you love Menorca but relocation must be a personal choice having considered all the obvious pros and cons. All the information re visas etc are on the net but one thing which is pretty hard to find is relocation with dogs. There will be loads on companies etc and the gov web site but nothing very practical.

We will be taking our Labrador for long stays ( within eu rules) and there are two routes,

1) Barcelona which is pretty expensive and although they do dog friendly cabins this does not apply to all ferry鈥檚 so if you can鈥檛 get a cabin the dogs have to go on kennels on the deck.

2) Toulon which is no further to drive ,a longer crossing but much cheaper with the benefit of dog friendly cabins which if not available then the dogs can stay with you馃憤 Have a look at both but Toulon seems to be overshadowed a bit.

We have been in the same quandary and did look to stay for a month or two but when we tried to get accommodation for longer than a week it was almost impossible in the summer period unless weekly rates for which a new mortgage is required馃槺馃槀馃憤

When our property is is up and running we are looking at renting for periods of one month or more for people who what to try before they buy馃馃槃 this is only an idea at present as we will not be moving for a few years .

Good luck

Terry

Hi Terry

You have absolutely confirmed what we felt we would love to do . Rent somewhere for a month but, like you the costs are enormous so other holidays take precedent.   If anyone knows of someone who is doing short term pre move rentals we would consider it .  Good luck with your plans

Hi Polly

I am following this thread with interest. We have a family villa in Binibeca, which we let out in the Summer. We'd be interested in considering longer-term lets, outside of the main holiday period. I'll drop you a private message so that you have my details.
