I have previously seen posts recommending internet suppliers who allow the supply to be turned on and off so when I am not in menorca, I do not have to pay for a service which will not be used. I forget which companies were recommended, so would appreciate an update from anyone in Punta Prima area who has such a service, and finds it cost effective and reliable. Last year I used Telefonica   Fibre as permanent supplier , they were OK but cost for phone and internet was around 90 euro a month which was unused for 9 /10 of the year.   Thanks BobT

With Fibralink you can pay monthly for 6 months of the year which works well for us from May to October, but you can choose the date you want your 6 months to commence.

I think you’ll find the cheaper options won’t be fibre optic. I’m with Infotelecom & when I contacted them & said I’d heard some people were only paying €5 per month when not there! They told me that is for people who only have WIMAX. I have fibre optic, pay €36.95 for broadband & €29 when not there!

I find this somewhat confusing. I tried to sort it out last year, but couldn’t find WiMAX. I have a Smarty  sim which I use in a dongle. It works OK  costs £10 a month for 30 Gb of data . Problem is it is a UK sim and is limited to 12 Gb / month when used outside Uk.if we watch a few films on Netflix it soon uses up 12Gb . It’s OK for e mail in one month . Checking usage with smarty is a pain as they want to verify your ID every time you log on. ( my dongle doesn’t receive e mails or sms messages, so I have to have two devices on line to verify ID, so I use my I pad and laptop)

I bought an Orange sim in Maó which gives 35Gb for 20 euro.  Not had a chance to test it as had to  suddenly go to UK . I suppose it will expire before I can return to menorca.

I will leave this subject for a few months I can’t handle it from UK. Thanks to you folk who took the trouble to comment. I appreciate your comments.  Bob t

I pay 42.35 euros a month for 6 months but nothing for the remaining 6 months or (as in lockdown) however long before I want to start again.  As soon as you recommence you will have to pay for the ensuing 6 months,  Very helpful English speaking staff.  A quick email before I leave UK and it’s up and running when I arrive,
