Hi. We are hoping to come over to Menorca soon and I’ve been researching car hire. There are all the usual suspects with dreadful feedback. Could anyone recommend me an honest, local car hire company please? I’ve tried Amber and Poppy, but the sites say their cars are unavailable. Many thanks.

I have used Autos Amigo for 36 years without a single problem but you may have the same trouble as with the other companies you tried. There is a severe shortage of cars due to the influx of Italian, German, French and Russian tourists in July. Autos Amigo, aka Menorca Car Hire had 3 cars out of 400 available last week when I booked, but still worth a quick email. Gail is the lady in charge, lovely and very professional.

You can try Island Cars or Auto Cars Galdana. We have used both and they are excellent.

Thank you very much for your reply. I’ve tried them and they have no available cars. This seems to be island wide. I’ve tried six different local dealers now 🙁
If you go on Love Menorca there is information on local car hire.

Hi try Balmes Menorca been using for ten years all inclusive you pay when you meet them Never been a problem highly recomm

Have you tried asking your accommodation provider (unless it is your holiday home ?)......I used to use a tiny car hire firm by the Hotel Aquamarina in Arenal d;en Castell (I lived in Addaya before I left Menorca, so I knew the people there ) .....they had no automatics (useful for the hills in Alayor and other places !) but they did find me an ancient beaten up dented manual ...ha ha good for me, cos I haven't driven a manual for years !.....one thing I wonder In France (where I lived after Menorca) I did have my UK Licence changed (same in Spain for a Spansh one ...which I can;t find now !) so I have a French licence and not a UK one (been out of the UK for 21 years !...too much hassle at over 70 to get a UK one back !).......look on the Menorca Tourist Board info page .....or try an ad in Es Diario ...good luck ! I am coming over soon and may not bother with a car this time ....although so useful to get to out of the way places ,,,,busses and taxis probably work out cheaper .............and I walk a lot .....good luck ! IF you do find anyone you can let me know in case I change my mind !'[p
We used Owners Cars in Mahon recently for many many weeks and had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
